NASA may be gearing up to send people back to the moon. But we don’t live in the Apollo days anymore and new technologies are starting to radically redefine exploration. Telerobotics, where astronauts remotely operate robots on a planet’s surface while floating in orbit, is both cheaper and substantially better than plans to put people on the ground. Welcome to planetary exploration rebooted or, perhaps, de-booted.

We are at a cusp, a decision point. We can decide to go one way, to the stars, and enjoy unlimited opportunities, unimagined possibilities, endless evolution, and eternal racial life. Or we can refuse the challenge, stay where we are — and die.
